Mexico has a great bank named Banorte. The bank is based in Monterrey. Reported, Banerto net profit rose 15% to 1.82 billion pesos ($157.1 million) in the first quarter as it grew deposits and expanded lending.
Besides the nest profit, Banerto loan portfolio increased by 14% on the year to MXN270.22 billion, marking the bank's fourth consecutive quarter of credit growth. In loans to consumers, corporates and government entities, the bank posted double-digit growth.
Banorte was founded in 1899 as Banco Mercantil de Monterrey S.A. Banorte is the primary subsidiary of Grupo Financiero Banorte, one of Mexico's largest and oldest financial institutions, which has been present in Mexico since 1899. Currently, Banorte has 12,500 employees and 950 branches.
"The Mexican banking system is operating in a complicated environment of low interest rates and increasing regulation that has a significant impact on the results of banks," Banorte said in a statement.
Banorte also said that it hopes to extend larger amounts of credit in the coming months, taking advantage of improved economic conditions. Last year, Mexico's economy expanded by 5.5% and the central bank sees it growing as much as 4.8% in 2011.
